Some people may not see anything wrong with rodeo. It's not like bull fighting.

I still think as  a outspoken person for animals  rights  Vanessa  is being  hypocritical by attending the  rodeo    I suppose  money  changes people  ......                    and yes  it should be outlawed .....

Having grown up in a rural area, I've seen a few rodeos. Some of the activities are cruel and others not so cruel. In bull riding it's usually the human that gets hurt… badly hurt. The bulls usually come out ok but are subject to tormenting and extensive travel which is not so nice. The thing that's really cruel about rodeos is when they knock down the calves and tie them up. There's also a lot of slaughter going on behind the scenes of injured calves, as well as cows to be used for BBQs, as a lot of people camp at these rodeos. Then you have the wet T-shirt competitions and all that carry on. I wouldn't be surprised if Amorosi isn't aware of the full extent of what goes on. Most people aren't.

Hello garry broomfield and welcome!  Maybe you should still invite her to do the imterview, because, as Matt says, she may not be aware of all that goes on, especially to the calves, and to horses that finish up with broken legs, and all the other brutality that is involved.

Maybe without "trapping" her on the program, you could use it to advantage by asking her if she knew exactly what happens at rodeos and you could then proceed to tell her.  One way to get the message out there, and to her, and you would most likely have a convert.  If you just "dump" her, she could well be offended and then you'd never get the chance to tell her how disappointed you were to find that she had patronised this event.

I am trying to find out where its being held

When they mentioned Vanessa"s name it was quick and a bit muffled but 3 people here all said what they couldnt believe she would be there.
and having farm animals herself she should know how traumatic rodeos are.....

I  have seen  this type of ad in a local paper for another rodeo which is a first for here   I  would have thought with all the protesting and awareness  about rodeos  that we might see an end  to it :(

A little aside here, for which I could easily get reported I suppose - but in the very early days of Animal Lib here in Qld, we did a demo at a rodeo and several carried placards saying "get bucked cowboy", which I thought was quite good, but we lost a few members over it and copped a lot of criticism all round.  Just as well they haven't seen some of the comments on this forum!!  We wouldn't have ANY members!!

I agree with DH. Maybe she’s unaware of the true nature of rodeos. She might need to be informed before it, so she can hijack it with an anti-rodeo speech lol. Bet that would get some media attention ;)

Her name’s Vanessa…she can’t be all bad ;)

Just to let you know that Vanessa Amorosi went ahead and played at the Rod Laver Arena International State of Origin Rodeo in Melbourne despite me pleading for her not to condone animal cruelty in rodeos right in the middle of an Australia wide push by the RSPCA and myself to get them banned. I sent her footage of rodeos my husband and I have filmed set to her own music and several emails. Her agent said that they were 'assured by the rodeo organisers that there would be no cruelty at this rodeo' and everything was fine. They mentioned things like 'as you know Vanessa is an animal liberationist and would never be involved in rodeos if they were cruel'. Basically she endorsed it. I have emailed her since the rodeo to ask if she will now speak out after seeing first hand what happens at these events and have received no further replies except her agent promising to bring it to her attention.
I have a website at www.norodeo.org with more information on rodeos. My husband and I host it.
This is very disappointing but on a happier note the Pt Lincoln rodeo has been axed and the reason the board has given was 'the public doesn't like rodeos anymore and we have all moved on'.

Jeanie, a few weeks ago, I wrote a long letter to the Mallalla Council after reading your website. I received no reply. A shame. Do you have any further news on the current state of affairs there?

Last I heard the Mallala Council CEO had told the local papers that it was highly unlikely that they would ever hold a rodeo again due to the $12,000 loss it made. People who have been phoning them have reported that they are very rude and some have said they are now denying laughing at the council meeting. That is laughable in itself as they actually were quite proud of that fact and mentioned it in local paper interviews saying 'some of the counsellors saw the funny side of the whole thing'. Obviously it isn't so funny anymore, as I have circulated DVD's of the Two Wells Rodeo all around the local district. I am very hopeful that with continued pressure from the public they will ban rodeos in the Mallala district. Maybe you could write a short followup letter asking for an update or response? Thanks heaps for your help.

Sounds like they have had to rethink their stance and save face. Good. I will write a follow-up letter too. Thanks for the update. The whole thing was just deplorable. Keep up the good work.
