Hi all!

Only just found this thread! I accidentally found this site as I was looking for info on the mini-chol cheese and a google search brought me here..

I'm so glad that it did!!!

I've been reading almost every thread I can since then.

I'm 28 and have 3 kids and a husband who is more like a fourth kid most of the time!!!

We have been seeking a lifestyle change due to hubby's health issues and have been Vegan for about 4 months now.

It's amazing how in such a short space of time your entire way of life can change (for the better)

Can't believe we used to live as we did... Never going back!!

Can't even stand to watch people eat flesh anymore without wanting to vomit!!!!!

Anyway.. "Hi" and speak to you all soon!!

P.S. I'm in WA and in insomniac so don't be surprised at the time of some of my posts!!!!

I have been to Earth Cafe in Subiaco but just to the shop part coz they sell Soy Delicious icecream yum.
So anyway you will have to let me know what its like...

Sorry JayBaby.. It's the Sri Melaka Resturaunt

the website is: http://members.iinet.net.au/~yongcorp/product1.html

if you're interested. The market appears to have a better range of vegan products than most places I've seen so far!!

Hi WAVeganNewbie and welcome (from another ex-WAer).  I'm pretty sure that the mini-chol cheese you were searching for isn't vegan, and I've also heard that some of the products at Sri Melaka have whey in the ingredients, but the staff aren't able to clarify which ones.  I might be wrong and have it mixed up with the other restaurant in James Street (the name escapes me, but will come to me during a moment of insomnia).  Anyway, I ate there years ago and thought the food was great.  :-)

Hey, I am from WA too. The vege supermarket is OK, mostly mock meats if you're into that. I went crazy there at first but now I am over it.

Formosa on James st is the place being though of. They have a HUGE menu, again mostly mock meats but some amazing tofu dishes as well.

Earth Market Cafe food is delish. Fresh, healthy and tasty. Their shop is very expensive but nice for a treat.

Fresh Provisions Mt Lawley stock a good range of things - Gourmet Cookies and Pies meals and pies (in the deli case), Cheezley, Tally Ho tofu, tempeh, soy burgers and sausages.

If you're in the city and in a need a quick lunch the Granary (I think that's right) in Carillion just before the food court do some vegan dishes.

Hmm.....that's all I've for for now. Oh steer clear of the Wild Fig Cafe Wednesday vego night. Went once, never again. Sorry, but food was terrible!

Apprently PAWS do a dinner on Monday nights at 6.30, haven't been yet.

Still some other places I want to try around Perth.

Hello All,

I'm Owen. I'm from Brisbane and just got back from 2 years in Japan.
I have a Japanese wife Momo and a 3yr old son Oliver. We're all vegan.

It was a pleasant surprise for me to see how active this forum has become.
I first became a vegetarian as a teenager in Brisbane back in 1989, and boy have things changed!
It's sometimes difficult to appreciate, but more and more people are becoming vegetarian all the time. Spending time overseas helped me to see that.

I really believe we are at the very beginning of a movement that will eventually be successful - just as the movement to abolish slavery was.
It may take hundreds or (god forbid!) thousands of years, but I it will happen - Killing animals for food will one day be seen by mainstream society as an abhorent act, and there will be laws to protect animals.

Sorry for the long introduction, but that's who I am.

Hoping to spend some time on this forum getting to know some local vegans/vegetarians.

Gday all! I joined this fabulous forum ages ago but have been a little side tracked since then. However Im back now, and really keen to be involved in sharing and promoting a vegan lifestyle.

Im 26, from the Sunshine Coast and have been vegetarian on/off (but mainly on!) for about 10 years. I know its the best way to live and I just love everything about it. When people ask me why Im vego I say "For lots of reasons. The main 3 being...

* Health (for me)

* Wealth (for the earth)

* Compassion (for the animals) - most importantly!"

None of my friends or family are vegos so I would love to meet others who are :) Anybody else in the Sunny Coast area?

Cheerio!

Hope you enjoy your visits and I'm sure the Sunshine people will make themselves known asap. Cheers Kevin.

Hi everyone, I’m new… just thought I’d say hi!

I’ve been vegetarian for over a year now, and am now trying to go vegan but finding the transition a little tricky… I’m hoping that I can find some good tips and tricks here from long time vegans to help things along :)

I’ve also kept fairly quiet about my reasons for being veg*n because I used to cop a lot of flack from family and some friends… but no more! I want to be more activiely involved in rasisng awareness… Being Veg*n is not something to be ashamed of! Since being more vocal about my reasons, some friends have looked into the meat industry and done their own research- and have gone vegetarian themselves- Hurrah! I was so pleased to hear this.

Anyhoo, I’m 27, live in Brisbane and am looking forward to meeting more like minded folks :)

Cheers!

I'm not that new but thought I might introduce myself too.. [unless anyone objects]

My name is Dee i'm 23 this year and have been vegetarian for approx 6 mths. possibly more. I changed my lifestyle and diet for several health reasons and can't imagine turning back.

I've learnt SO much already about food and animal welfare etc from this forum. So cheers to everyone.

My next step is Veganism.. working on that one slowly.

Hi all,

I'm a 21 year old software engineer from Adelaide, and have just found this forum.

I've been vegetarian for about 10 years, but have been vegan for... Well, technically I'm not just yet, I'm in the process of doing so. I hope not to buy any more non-vegan food, but I'll have to finish what's already in the cupboard.

Does anybody know of a definitive list of products which have no animal ingredients and were not tested on animals? I've seen the thread on here where people mention individual products, but I'm after an actual list.

Thanks

Hi seanneko, and welcome to the forum. The lists tend to be a bit dynamic  according to ownership of companies changing from time to time etc. The best bet is to get to know ingredients.. and read labels and ask questions of sellers. But there are some lists that are good guides. eg:

http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/list.html
http://www.vegsoc.org.au/products.asp
http://www.vegsoc.org.au/showsub.asp?CatID=4&cat=Shopping

Hope that is helpful. :)
