Hey there,
I'm wanting to get some tofutti sour cream and the local mrs flanneries are all out. Has anyone seen anywhere in Bris that has any at the moment?
Thanks a lot!

I've never seen any type of non-dairy sour cream in my area ever.

It can't be hard to make: must be just tofu and one or two other things. I might see if I can find a recipe.

Back again: I went and looked before I hit submit:

http://www.theveggietable.com/recipes/sourcream.html

http://www.vegan-food.net/recipe/537/Sour-Cream/

http://vegetarian.about.com/od/saucesdipsspreads/r/tofusourcream.htm

Probably lots more ('recipe for vegan sour cream' into Google).

I kept looking and came across this site which has many vegan low-fat condiment recipes which might come in very handy:

Ah well, looks like i am out of luck. I should have stocked up when i found it. I could use the tofutti cream cheese spread or i could go make my own. Thanks for those links Ron Kat, I don't know why i didn't even think of doing that till now :)

Shirleene

How about mixing coconut cream (doesn't really taste very coconutty) with lemon or lime juice.

I use coconut cream in any recipe that usually needs cream - soups etc - so it should be worth a try.

At this time of year it is pretty solid in the can, but maybe in summer you could refrigerate it.

They sell it at The Forest in West End. It tastes quite good, but you could also make a similar thing by blending Tofutti cream cheese and soy milk (turns out cheaper, tastes the same)

Shirleene - I saw some the other day at the Flannery's at Chermside (corner of Rode and Webster Roads).  I'm sure they had more than one container - but better to ring first to check 3861 5477 :)

Some Woolworths shops sell the sour cream. I also believe Coles in Newfarm might also???

The first time I ever bought Tofutti Cream cheese was at Mrs' Flannery's when it was lke 7.60. I thought that was cheap. I've since learned that anything that can be bought elsewhere should be, because Mrs. Flannery's are extremely inconsistent in their pricing between stores and HUMUNGOUSLY expensive, no matter how good they are at getting handy things in for vegans...
I then bought tofutti at our local IGA at ascot, for 5.60. Then I bought it at Woolworths at Nundah, and every other woolworths i've been to, forl ike 3.80 or something.

THe local IGA In ascot has the sour cream, and i've seen it at some mrs. flannery's too. Can't remember where else, sorry, but yes, it is hard to come by.

Also available in Woolworths at Dianella Plaza Shopping Centre, Perth WA...

They also have the Blue Lotus Curried Tempeh Rolls, so I bought two packets, just hope the Soy doesn't react, I didn't realize there were Soy Ingredients, so we'll see!!
