> People Involved In This Website > Senator Andrew Bartlett Senator Andrew BartlettSenator Andrew Bartlett is a born and bred Queenslander, as is his wife, Julie, and their 14-month old daughter, Lillith. He has a Social Work and an Arts degree from the University of Queensland.Andrew worked at the Department of Social Security before joining the staff of Cheryl Kernot - following her election to the Senate in July 1990. He worked on the staff of Democrat Senators for the next seven years. When Kernot resigned in 1997, he was appointed as a Senator for Queensland. Andrew has been the party's spokesperson on issues such as immigration, animal welfare and the environment since that time. On 5th October 2002, Senator Andrew Bartlett took on the role of parliamentary leader of the Democrats following a ballot of the party's members. Andrew Bartlett has been active in many community organisations. He is a former President of Animal Liberation Qld and of the Vegetarian/Vegan Society of Queensland, as well as having been involved in groups like Community Aid Abroad, Tenants' Union of Queensland and the Australian Republican Movement.
