Review I used to love the flavour... but am disappointed now I know that msg, disguised as yeast extract, is added. The packaging assures consumers that no msg has been added... yet yeast extract has the same effect as msg... and is used as an enhancer. This is deceptive...don't you think?

Review I love this stuff so much!! I just resently became vegetarian, but I bought this stuff MONTHS ago and realised how much better the flavour was compared to other brands.
Now that I am a vego I just love that I can still use this stuff in my risottos etc!!!!

Review We LOVE this. But it's impossible to find anymore here in Houston, Texas. I have written the company to no avail. Would one of you restaurant owners send me some information on ordering it in bulk (to save a little on the astronomical shipping cost to the US) or even be willing to send me out a batch? Please e-mail me at speedwell at hotmail dot com. We will be very thankful to you!

Review I have just had a look at Massel's new stock cube in a paper wrapper (as opposed to cardboard container) and saw that it does not say anything about hydrogenated oil, but it DOES say CHICKEN FAT!! Ugh!!

Review I enjoyed it. People needs to be educated on what makes MSG or enhancer, it's useless to react over something we have not known - the facts. More Asian vegetarian food for us to explore.

Review I like everything about this product except that it contains hydrogenated vegetable oil :( I have made a really tasty veggie soup with it, then i read the ingredients and decided to look up ingredients on the web - http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/puo/bulletin/issue/199901/res2.html - and now i'm not so happy about eating my soup. Is there an alternative to using hydrogenated oil?

Review This is for "Disappointed" -- I think you will find that MSG is actually 621, whereas the product contains 627 and 631. Also, if you look at one of the previous posts, the Company says it stands by its claim that there are no animal ingredients in the product -- that 627 and 631 actually come from seaweed. Why not contact the company and speak to them about it? Their details are on the previous post.

Review what are you doing adding MSG to the latest stock? To me this means no more buying of your product. Untill you can get rid of the flavour enhancers, (meat extracted??) it's no go for this vego. Pity, It used to always be my preference.
Reviewer dissapointed .. lookin for another..better

Review This is a great product for new veggies that need weaning off the 'meaty taste' in meals, and also a good way to cook vegan for die-hard meat-eaters.

Review I rang Massel to query the 631, and spoke to Mark. He was quite upset at the thought that word was getting around about animal ingredients in their product. He says their claim that their product is completely animal free still stands, and that their 631 comes from seaweed.

He was going to contact the New Additive Code Breaker editors to ensure that their information for future editions was more accurate and comprehensive.

Should anyone care to discuss this issue with Mark, his number is
02 9674 7999 and his e-mail is:- mark@massel.com.au

Hope this makes people feel happier about the product.

Review the newer batches of this product, as Moggies pointed out, contain flavour enhancers 627 and 631. and by what i understand 631 is a derivative of sardines and meat extract.

Review I used to use them all the time, then I discovered organic vegetable broth/stock (hilde hemmes) and organic vege concentrate called 'plantaforce' (A.Vogel) from health food stores/organic supllies. Although more expensive, it is a far superior product and you know you are getting a safe product that tastes good without all that bad stuff.

Review I use massel all the time for stir fry's, soup, lentil loaf and everything else I cook. My favorite is the Vegetable cube, I rarely use the Chicken or Beef flavors as I am Vegetarian and do not desire meat flavor. We also use the Massel Gravy for our roast vegetables. YUM

Review The latest batch of Massel ULTRACUBES has added flavour enhancers, until Massel can guarantee 100% non animal content, I will rate them as 1.

Why did Massel find it necessary to add flavour enhancers to a normally good product?

Review I actually like them but have discovered that hydrogenated vegetable oils are not good. Hydrogenation changes the essential unsaturated fats into trans fatty acids. How do we find something without hydrogenated vegatable oil?

Review They come powdered in tins now, which I like better than the cubes.

I have only used the vegetable, and chicken flavours, beef doesn't interest me at all.

I can't cook my rice without it anymore...yum! Definitely a 5 star rating.
