My favourite place on the Gold Coast
Food is great from the Tao Food is just yummy, service always friendly
Only negative is the place needs modernising, paint, new chairs throw away the plastic tablecloths, but then l wouldnt be able to get a seat as everyone would go there

My favourite place to eat on the GC.
When I lived in NSW I would make sure Id stop into this place whenever I came to the Gold Coast.
We have been there so much now that the owner, who is simply lovely, welcomes us and seats us right near where he can talk to us easily behind the counter and then gives us a hug when we leave.
I love the staff.
And I love the food.
I love their beef currys and chicken and cashew nut!!
This resturant is lovelyyyyyyyy.

Eating at Tian Ran is an amazing experience. From the moment we walked in the door we were immediately welcomed, seated and made to feel at ease.
The food is unbelievably good, and 100% vegan. Very good serving sizes to eat with rice. I think the sweet and sour 'fish' is the best thing I've eaten in my life. A little bit more presentation for some of the dishes wouldn't have gone astray, but with taste that good, who's arguing? Pricing also seems extremely fair.
My group consisted of both meat-eaters and vegetarians. The meat-eaters were astonished at the quality of the mock-meats. (Scarily like meat, but better). A good place to impress non-vegetarian friends.
The service was excellent, and our meals came surprisingly quickly for the amount of food we ordered. Kudos to Justin and Ruth Chang!
From the outside, the restaurant looks very small and narrow, but the use of mirrors creates the illusion of a spacious interior, which is beautifully decorated with Buddhist calligraphy and artwork. It was very clean and well-lit. The background chanting music is very serene. There is a genuine feeling of happiness and calm in the restaurant.

Truely the best and probably the only vegan chinese rest on the coast. We don't have to worry about the owner or the staff telling fibs on the ingredients. We had crispy noodles(which we normally will not eat at other place because of the eggs). The serving was huge, full of fresh crisp greens. The four of us ate steam dim sims, springs rolls and mushrooms rolls which were made on the premises. Yums
We had curry, sweet & sour, tofu , beef black pepper and tom yum seafood. All so authentic and home cooked. Did not have that common commercial taste like other rests.
The service from the chinese man was cute. He is so keen to please and help us. We feel quite important.
After the mains, we were all exploding with goodness. But we have to try the sago which was recommended. Hmm, so refreshing.
We love travelling and easting, finding Tian Ran is a blessig. This is the first time we are at ease eating at a chinese rest. Too bad we don't live in this part of aust. We will surely mark this on our favourite destination for the future. Meeting Ruth & the staff was great, we learn what was in the food, how to prepare etc, etc. Not many rest. owners are too keen to tell you anything. Thank you so much Ruth.

Tian Ran is amazing! Dropped in there with 3 others and we shared everything. Out of 4 entrees and 4 mains, none of us could complain. It was ALL so good...
Crispy Fish and Beef and Black Bean were stand outs.
Ohh... And the service was GREAT! Nicest elderly man working there... Treated the group like old friends! Good times.

I love this place!! the vibe, the people, I know I'm eating food made with love...and it's delicious!!
I come here anytime I need a nourishing dinner, a quick takeout on the way home from work, and even had a very special first date here too.
Thanks Tian Ran for being a nurturing place for health-conscious foodies.

Coming from the Central Coast of NSW where you mention the word vegan and you get a blank stare in return, I'm always really excited when I find a purely Vegan restaurant!
My partner and I checked out Tian Ran based on the great reviews it has received.
The reviews were all spot on!
By far the best food I've eaten whilst dining out in years! Friendly service from Rhys added to the whole experience. The wait for food was slightly more than most other places, but the quality of the food soon made us forget about the tiny delay.
My only negative point would be that the dishes do such a good job of imitating some meat dishes that you really question if it actually is vegan when you take your first bite!
The won ton soup and crispy fried bean curd were stand outs.
Awesome place! I wish we had places like this where we live :(

Most amazing restaurant I've been to! I was genuinely surprised and delighted when the food arrived. Delicious, and I doubt any regular meat-eater could tell the difference. Wonderful. The host was very sweet and the service quite good. Wish I lived on the gold coast so I could eat there every single day!

My boyfriend & I went to Tian Ran last weekend and really enjoyed the experience. The food is the best veggo chinese I've ever tasted, and that includes Chinatown in London and Singapore - stiff competition!
We had three starters between us - crispy fish, mushroom beancurd rolls and steamed BBQ dim sims. All were very good: not too oily with fresh, clean-tasting dipping sauces that complemented well.
Then we had one main each with steamed brown rice: the beef in black-bean sauce and the chicken in ginger. I especially liked the beef in black bean: so tasty and moreish!
The prices were very reasonable, and - given the fact there only seemed to be two people working there (!) and there was a birthday party of 8 - the service was friendly and accurate.
We'll definitely be making this one a regular : I can't wait to try more of their menu.

This was the best restaurant I went to on my Gold Coast holiday. The food was exceptional if a bit scary for its likeness to dead animals! The service was very friendly. We all loved everything and wanted to go again but ran out of time. I highly recommend it.
There was no ID on this review, or reviewer named, so I hope I have the right restaurant. DH

This is, hands down, the best Vegan eatery on the Gold Coast.
The food is fresh and the food combinations are delicious. My friends and I are definite regulars here. There is no oil overloading and no msg and as soon as you walk in you feel welcome and inspired by good home cooking, by people who know what they are doing and are passionate for all the right reasons.
The prices are so cheap- not naming some of the other 'vegan' restaurants on the Coast, but they are well overpriced and offer nothing but bland food that supports supermarkets rather than fresh local produce and are well over the mark of everybodies budget.
I noticed people making complaints about the service? Have you noticed there is only one host/cashier/waiter on the floor? And he is also helping out the back with prep? I'm not really sure when people will be happy and/or full but I find people often have eyes to big for their bellies.
If you haven't been to Tian Ran, I would say "go for it". It's a wholesome atmosphere and meal for everybody to enjoy.

This is a great place to eat.
I take meat eaters there and they love it.
My partner is a chef and said the meals were very like the real meat in texture and he loves the food.
It s a good idea to go early as service slows when busy but the meals are fantastic and we go back frequently.

I was sceptical about it really being vegetarian and vegan but was totally impressed with the fact that EVERY meal was authentic, tasted (scarily) like fish, chicken or pork (the Sweet & Sour Pork even had the pinkish bit inside the batter!) and was all soy substitute. It was eerie. There is NO GARLIC or ONION too yet everything was tasty and flavoursome.
I highly recommend the Seaweed Tofu Soup (lots of ingredients and flavour to the max) and the Salt & Pepper Seafood Combination. Delicious. The meals are enough to share with one other but the four of us were so amazed with their ability to produce something that tastes like meat, we were swapping and tasting each other's dishes.
My husband had the Vegetarian Chicken Curry and my friends had the Sweet & Sour Pork, Wanton Noodle Soup and Hotpot (full of wholesome veggies).
The place is spotless, was packed with 'alternative types' and our meals came out quickly and with a smile and happiness (the tall old Chinese man is extremely cute and delightful). My friends were also very impressed with the Choc Chip Soy icecream.
Paid $100 for the four of us (4 x entrees, mains and desserts). We are going to make this a regular haunt!

We've dined here twice now in the past month and absolutely loved it! Returning again on Friday with friends its that good!
The food is exceptionally fresh and clean on the palate. Lots of fresh vegies and no MSG which is fantastic. The decor and ambiance is basic but the prices are reasonable.
We've found the serving sizes more than adequate. Last time we actually shared two dishes and had to leave some we were that full!
This is now one of our favourite restaurants on the Gold Coast.

We went there last night. Admittedly we did not have a booking, but shared a large 6 seater table with two obliging diners. The food was good, we had the "beef" in blackbean sauce and the eggplant hotpot. Both very tasty. The "meat" in the blackbean sauce was fantastic. If anyone can tell me how to get hold of this I would greatly appreciate it.
However the service was REALLY slow. They just didn't seem to really be on top of what was important, i.e. food serving. (had to ask for plates, then serviettes, then chopsticks, then had to get them ourselves from the counter) BUT the food was great. Perhaps when they are not so busy it would be a better experience but our meal ended up taking at least 2 hours all up with forgotten entrée, and no offered drinks etc. The only seemed attentative when they had managed to serve you the food, otherwise they would avoid you like the plague!
The atmosphere is very basic. But then it is reasonably priced accordingly.
Shame as the food was good. Servings are small too, so be warned if you are famished! I know someone comments above about food only being the “priority” however when you have to wait that long it sort of spoils the event.
The good news is that it was very busy which means there is most certainly a demand for good vegan food on the Gold Coast.

REALLY REALLY YUMMY FOOD,always fresh and tasty but wish the portions were a little bit bigger, however well worth every cent. I'm a vegetarian and have taken many non vegetarians there who have agreed it was surprisingly good. I love the satay 'chicken'. The decor is simple but the standard of food could challenge alot of the fine dining restaurants I've experienced worldwide.
Definitely a 5 out of 5.

Hi there, this must be the best vege restaurant on the coast, unfortunately we dont have many vegan restaurants, but this one rocks. Food fantastic, the service is unique, Josh rocks, keep him there, he is so funny. Go for the Chicken Curry yum. and the sago desert, the best. Thanks Tian Ran for some great food.

Ive been about 10 times in the last 6 months. I cant believe I've only been there 10 times.
Go in a group of 6 or so people so you can order as many dishes as possible to sample. Literally every dish we have tried off the menu is fantastic.
And when you take non-vegetarian friends, they are blown away.

I spent a week on the Gold Coast & ate here 4 nights. I loved it.
The 'fish' & chips were great, as were the 'beef' dishes & the 'pork' balls
I did find it a little expensive though well worth it.
I wish there was one like it in Adelaide!

i thought i would re comment about this great vegan restaurant. ive been going here for something like 7 years plus . The food is still amazing with the new owners and its great servings as i can eat alot and im always full heheh , of course i always get the sago desert with ice cream and coconut cream on top :) . The food is well priced and i think quite cheap considering many other places. And why are people saying the waiter josh is intimidating? He is such a great guy , always willing to help with questions and share his knowledge on many topics. The whole stuff both owners have always been so nice and always willing to help out anyone especially when u get to know them , they are just so kind and i cant say enough nice stuff.. my favourite is the number 61 hot pot :) lots of veggies and is so fresh :)

The new decor (floor tiles especially) looks great but still maintains the quirky ambiance!
The food is of a high standard although some serving sizes are a bit small...
Can believe that people have commented that the waiter is intimidating!
We had a very enjoyable meal with our 16 year old.

Such a great place to eat & relax knowing that there is nothing in any meal that contains any animal product; no 'what's in this?', 'can we get that without cheese/milk/egg?'
My girlfriend and I have tried many dishes on the menu and all have been great. I don't understand everyones' emphasis on overly-friendly, bubbly staff. You go to a restaurant for food, not to be annoyed by over-enthusiastic people. And to find that dude intimidating? He is such a genuine guy!
The service at Tian Ran is great, everyone is genuinely appreciative of your custom and are always helpful. Most mains are under $15, not expensive for a specialty food that isn't widely available on the Gold Coast, and great food at that. Great place, has always been a staple in our diet and always will.

Having been spoilt at "The Vegie Hut" in Boxhill, Victoria, I was disappointed with the serving sizes and prices. Curry Laska wasn't on the menu and the one they whipped up was very average. Being a 3rd generation vegetarian I have fairly high standards and though this restaurant is okay, it didn't meet my expectations. Staff could try being a little more approachable and less intimidating. (Not that his tatts and poor dress sense intimidated me).

Where are the friendly staff I was promised? The moody, unapproachable tattooed dude mumbled throughout our meal and could do with a customer service course or two. Great food though if only I were dining alone, but with the wife and three boys, this is a monthly treat rather than a weekly one due to the prices. Nice to dine at a restaurant where we don't have to ask if there is chicken stock in everything. Peace of mind for the true vegie!

Best place on the coast, hands down.
Staff are friendly, food is great, atmosphere is really cozy.
My boyfriend and I go there regularly and are always bringing our 'meat eating' friends to give it a go. Although sceptical, they always leave feeling great and go back to eat there again.
As for the portion sizes, they are very good... not wasteful at all. You leave feeling satisfied, not rolling out the door.
People need to eat less and eat better, Australia is gonna turn into fat America if we're not careful.
Viva Tian Ran!!

We went with family and friends for my husbands birthday as he had been diagnosed with cancer so it was very hard to find a vegan restaurant now that he has changed his life syle organic food etc.
we were told about Tian Ran, so we thought we would give it a go. SO GLAD WE DID AS IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS.
Even for non Veg.
we have been back since and will keep going there
Thank you for your great service and friendly staff

This place is responsible for my sudden obsession with asian vegan cooking - it was so good!!!
The food and service at this place was excellent.
The waiter knew a lot about the food and preparation and was very helpful.
I will definitely be going back!!

This is a very disappointing restaurant . We ordered take away for 4...this cost us $60. The complaint I have is the serving sizes. The vege satay chicken was only 1/4 full in those takeaway containers and the vege chicken with seasonal veges was only 1/2 a container full. Come on guys ....don't be cheap with the servings. The sweet and sour chicken and pork servings were also a disgrace. For the price of these main courses...$11.80 - $13.80 You could a least serve it with rice. Totally bland food. We will not go again. We have been vegetarians for 20 years and its a shame this place was disappointing!!!!!!!!!

Found this place while researching this site trying to work out where the heck to dine now my 14 year old has turned the family vegetarian (go conscious kids!!) The rave reviews left my mouth watering. Told her I'd found a great Vegan Restaurant and she's like, "Oh, no mum, not tofu and lettuce":) She was like a kid in a lolly shop! Everything tasted so good, and we got to sample the fish which tasted better than real fish and icecream that tasted better than normal icecream! We were totally impressed! Service was wonderful with owner Anne honouring my daughter for her swing to Vegetarianism, making lots of great suggestions for meals. For such an unassuming little place it was an amazing dining experience. At the price i may give up cooking forever!

Absolutely the best vegetarian restaurant I have eve come across. The food is superb and the people are wonderfully helpful and unpretentious. The atmosphere is quite peaceful and neutral, not too eastern nor western in style. I live on the GC and kick myself every week when I do not go there.

For those of you familiar with Leaderbowl in Sunnybank, this place is like a smaller and more polished version of them. The food is fantastic and the service is friendly and quick. Everything on the menu is vegan, including a range of simple but very tasty desserts. I’ve only been there a couple of times, but I intend to return whenever I’m down the coast during their opening hours. Pricing is about on par with Leaderbowl, which in my opinion, is great value for money for such good quality food.

The sort of place I would eat out at every week at least once if I lived on the Gold Coast. Definitely the only true vegetarian rest on the Gold Coast. Nice buddhist chants make it a gentle atmosphere. The food is plain simple honest to goodness hard to beat cuisine, nice tasting, and a good range. Service is v good. I recommend you take your best friends there often

Visiting from Perth.
Food was absolutely top notch,
especially the entree "crispy fish". We also thoroughly recommend the mains: beef and cashews, chicken satay. (These are all mock meat).
We have eaten in many vege restaurants throughout Australia and would thoroughly recommend Tian Ran.
A must for everyone!

The ONLY vegetarian restaurant to visit! Owned by people that truly talk the talk AND walk the walk when it comes to great, healthy food with a deep understanding and compassion for our animal friends. The Chilli Paste IS THE BOMB! The staff know what they are talking about, they practice what they themselves sell, so you know that you are part of a wholistic experience. Do yourself a favour - get down to Tian Ran. Tell 'em Brett sent you and you qualify for a 10% discount!

The food was yummy and we had a great time. The banquet at the VVSQ function allowed us to try a range of dishes. It may not suit everyone's tastes, however. The food was a little oily and the pretend meat and fish dishes were sometimes scarily like the real thing. More vegetable dishes would have been an improvement.

This is my favourite restaurant on the Gold Coast. Tastes fresh & absolutely delicious. I luv the sweet & sour vegetarian chicken made from soy and the eggplant & fish hotpot (which is all vegan), 2 dishes I highly recommend. A huge selection to choose from. I took my non-vego friends and they loved it.

Hey josh (from tian ran), are you kidding me?
You have some nice tattoos, but the sexy part just doesn't work for most (?) males.
That said, you used to have female staff that fit the description - what did you do with them?
Oh yeah, good Asian veg food! Quiet, unassuming setting.
