I dont live in Brisbane myself but my sister does, so every time i come to visit her i make sure i go there. I have always loved it. The food is always great and very affordable. The staff are always friendly. I wish there was one closer to where i live.

Has to be the cheapest restaurant in town. $6 for students between 2-3pm for more than you can eat!

Nice place, good food, and really pleasant outdoor seating in warm weather.
I like the kofta balls, giant samosas, noodles (not really indian but good!)...
Only thing is, as of this writing they have a 'vegan night' on Wednesdays. But it's no different to a regular night! They still have vegetarian food and no vegan desserts - although they say they'll try to make some in future.
I say if you're going to have a vegan night, make everything vegan - or stop calling it that!

Good locaton, nice feel about the place.
Food is oily and creamy and lacks variety generally. Understaffed in peak hour and lacklustre staff. I will not be back for quite some time.

First time that I have tried Govindas and it will not be the last. $10 for a drink and 3 courses... that is unlikely to be beaten on price anywhere in the City, and even if it is I dont believe that it will surpass the atmosphere, service and quality of food on offer. I am not a Vegan or Vegetarian...with food this great maybe I should try! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I've been to this place several times. Its wonderful. The service is great. No compromise on vegetarianism. Food is bland at times and does miss out on Indian spices but I guess it adheres to the ideals of simplicity. Veg. Lasagne- great!

The food is fantastic. I love the different meals for each day of the week. Perfect for vegetarians. Very filling too, I can only eat one plate.
The environment is casual and quiet which is a perfect escape from the rest of the city.
The only thing I don't like is that the price keeps going up. A $1 discount for students is not much but the student hour price is better so I try to go at that time.
Overall a great experience. Unfortunately none of my friends appreciate its greatness so I have to go alone. But it's definately worth it!

It was like a breath of fresh air to see a vegetarian restaurant on the Coast. The guy who served me was very nice and down to earth. I was happy with the food quality for the price I paid.

The food here is just wonderful! I'm a poor uni student and I still think it's cheap - so I'm not sure what all the people who think it is expensive are talking about. Excellent food and friendly staff. Even though some of them struggle a bit from time to time with their English - a laugh and a smile are the same in any language.

I was glad to find Govindas whilst on the Gold Coast. A great place to feed a family as prices are good.
Quite a few vegan options too.
I have always liked most Hare Krishna food (though personally I reckon it wouldn't harm to add a few more spices!)
Such a shame Govindas in Adelaide closed down a few years ago :(

I love Govindas, I think the food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and I never have any problems asking for a vegan plate (just watch to make sure they don't accidently, automatically, put the dressing on the salad!). One plate is always more than enough for me.
I wanted to let you know that they have started doing dinner now. We tried it a week ago and though it was very quiet, the food was just as nice as always and it's a nice place to go for a meal after work if you work in the City. We don't have problems going for lunch either for that matter - it's busy and bustling but there have always been tables available.

Govinda's is only suitable to vegetarians and/or others whom like vegetarian dishes.
Price and quantity have always been reasonable here - relative to other city food outlets.
Govinda's is not a restaurant dining experience as such, but it sure beats other outlets in that it offers a quiet place and wholesome, nourishing ingredients.
If quantity or budget is your thing, you could take advantage of the revolving door menu and miss an evening meal.

I like Govinda's but I am a little concerned about the quality of oil that the food is cooked in. I say this with an open heart and in a good spirit but I went to the restrooms at the back of the resturant and saw drums of oil that are not conducive to healthful cooking practices. If anyone from Govindas is reading this entry I would ask that they seriously reconsider the oils they put in the food as it really spoils the overall healthy benefits.

Went there for lunch today. Quite a unique experience for Brisbane as far as the layout etc. are concerned. Great food, quick, and all you can drink lime-mint-ginger cooler with the buffet.

I quite like Govindas, we've been there a few times and love the food. We specifically ask for vegan food and the staff tell us what we can have and usually don't put the dressing on the salad. The times that they have put the dressing on the salad they have been happy to change our plates of food.

I found the Govinda's restaurant value for money, all you can eat. in the city is hard to find... The Sunday feast on Sundays is even better, as the food is twice as good as the weekdays and its only $5.00 if you come early - before 5.30 pm -- $7.00 after 5.30 pm.. Overall I think the Sunday feast is the best value..and mostly Vegan..

I've just recently started going back to Govinda's. I stopped going a few years ago when the place changed hands (I think?) and a lot of the previously vegan food started having ghee in it. That seems to have changed (I'm not sure when), making it more vegan friendly again, but the menu varies night to night, so some days are better for vegans than others. You also have to watch some of the staff as more than a couple of times they've tried to give me non vegan stuff after I've asked what dishes are vegan and then asked for only those dishes (most often with the salad dressing). The food is absolutely delicious and it's really cheap.

Govinda's uses oil, so most of the dishes are vegan friendly. There are nine different nationalities of staff who work in Govinda's, every single one of them vegetarian. They all speak english, some better than the Aussies(I might add)
The halava contains butter, the custard(of course), the lassi is yoghurt.
If ever in doubt just ask for the manager, that solves all problems.

Very disappointing. Nothing was vegan and the waitress/server could barely speak English to answer our questions about what was in the food.
It took a long time to work out that we couldn't actually eat anything there. We ended up going across the street to the Myer Centre where one of the Indian take-aways had excellent, cheap vegan food with a cook who was more than willing to share the ingredients list to make sure we were only getting vegan.

It's a long time since I have been to Govinda's, but the last time I went it was good wholesome food and very cheap.
I do not think that with a concession of $7.50 for all you can eat, that anyone could call that expensive, nor do I think anyone could reasonably expect the price to be any lower than that. Good value for money.

I am sooo impressed with Govinda's. I have been going there for about 3 years now - regularly. I LOVE their food. It is an oasis in the city! I am planning to go do some of their cooking classes to learn just how they get their food to taste so delicious. They have decorated the restaurant and that has only added to the value for money you get going there. The people are lovely - I can't believe antone would describe them as "Spaced Out". I have always found them to be calm and pleasant.

Well I must admit I feel pretty dull and spaced out most of the time, I am sure none of us are perfect in this regard. Nonetheless I admire the steady determination of the Hare Krishna devotees to keep Govinda's open and running since over 12 years in Brisbane. Sure there are some ups and downs but heck how many of us are living on the transcendental platform. 10 points for trying Govinda's.
The opening hours have changed for Govinda's. It is now Mon to Thu 11am to 6.30pm. Friday 11am to 8.30pm and Sat 11.30 to 2.30pm. Sunday Feast is 5pm on Sunday.
For all vegan lovers Govinda's cooks only with oil.

I often eat here and although the prices have gone up lately they have compensated by haveing a different menu everyday. The foods always nice and fresh and i have never had problems goin back for more. The sunday fest is probably best to stay away from unless you are interested in the Krishna Religion as its more like a religious service with food at the end. Great for a vegetarian meal if your not expecting the flash restaraunt.

I had the opportunity to visit this place during a lunch time about 2 years ago and had never stepped into it ever since. Their style were supposed to be all you can eat buffet, but when I went for a second round, the staff there looked at me as though I was an alien being. No smiles, and lots of strange stares... It gave me a cult-ish feel. The food is not bad but the atmosphere (caused by the staff) was very uncomfortable...

same food is served as in the hare krsna cafe at west end, but at eight dollars for all you can eat rather than seven. typically you get rice with dahl, kofta balls and tomato sauce, salad with a type of yoghurt dressing and my favourite, some kind of vegetable dish which is always different. you may also help yourself to a ginger-tasting fruit drink and dessert. the food is great as are the hare krsna decorations, and there is a variety of hare krsna literature on the tables which may be read or purchased. unfortunately their hours are somewhat limited; open for a few hours at lunchtime, im not sure about dinner, and the sunday feast which i am curious about.

i love the food here it is always tasty. if you are interested in the hare krishna style then give this place a go.

Govinda's is always good for a quick lunch or a more leisurely dinner - it is filling and freshly cooked food with a distinctly Hare Krishna touch. Highly recommended.

I was in Govinda's the other day and the new manager told me all the food is cooked in vegetable oil. Yeaah, I'll meet up with Raheem and Kerrie for lunch. It's all vegan bar the custard.
